Before you buy a travel plan, take one minute to confirm two things: your phone supports eSIM, and it isn't locked to a single network. Both checks are quick — and the fastest of all is our built-in compatibility checker, which gives you a clear yes or no in seconds.
Prefer to check by hand? Here's how, on any phone.
One dial code works on almost every phone
Open your phone app and dial *#06#. A screen of identification numbers appears instantly — no call is placed, nothing is changed. If one of the lines is labeled EID, your phone has the hardware that eSIM needs. No EID line usually means no eSIM support.
This is the closest thing to a universal test: it behaves the same whether your phone is new, a few years old, or somewhere in between.
Or find it in your settings
On an iPhone, go to Settings → General → About and scroll down. If you see an EID entry or a Digital SIM section, you're ready.
On Android, open Settings → Network & Internet. If there's an option to add or download an eSIM, your phone supports it. Menu names vary a little between manufacturers, but the eSIM option is easy to spot when it's there.
The second question: is your phone unlocked?
eSIM support is only half the story. If you bought your phone through a carrier contract, it may be locked to that network — and a locked phone can refuse travel plans from anyone else, no matter how eSIM-ready it is.
Not sure? Ask your carrier or look in your account settings; many networks unlock a phone on request once the contract conditions are met. If you bought your phone outright, unbranded and contract-free, it's almost certainly unlocked already.
